Before getting into any further details on how to handle the different post types in use at this site, one thing to keep in mind is that it will often be easiest and most efficient to proceed from a duplicate of something you like. If you’re adding a new post, for example, you can easily make a draft copy of an existing post. Choose one that in format and content is as close to the one you want to create and then:
The instructions that follow (from the plugin’s own instructions) mention “Posts” and “Pages,” but also apply to Biographies, Events, and for that matter to other “post types” that you probably don’t need to concern yourself with.
- In ‘Edit Posts’/’Edit Pages’, you can click on ‘Clone’ link below the post/page title: this will immediately create a copy and return to the list.
- In ‘Edit Posts’/’Edit Pages’, you can select one or more items, then choose ‘Clone’ in the ‘Bulk Actions’ dropdown to copy them all at once.
- In ‘Edit Posts’/’Edit Pages’, you can click on ‘New Draft’ link below the post/page title.
- On the post edit screen, you can click on ‘Copy to a new draft’ above “Cancel”/”Move to trash” or in the admin bar.
- While viewing a post as a logged in user, you can click on ‘Copy to a new draft’ in the admin bar.
3, 4 and 5 will lead to the edit page for the new draft: change what you want, click on ‘Publish’ and you’re done.

You also have the option to “Rewrite & Republish” – something you probably won’t use very often: If you use it, then the new post will replace the old post.
The title of your new draft will begin “Copy of…” It’s a good idea not to publish the post until you have settled on a reasonable title for it: Otherwise, the URL of the post will include “copy-of-[previous-post]” instead of the new post’s title. You can change that at any time, though. So, it’s not a big deal if you forget.
